The Magic “Art on the Wild Side” Life Changing Experience Itinary:
Day One- Session 1: * times vary over the year, please check before booking. 14h30 – 16h00
A perceptually-based lesson with Estelle Mc Ilrath to introduce you to your subject eg.meerkats.
Session 2: * times vary over the year, please check before booking. 17h00 --?
A field trip with ‘Meerkat Man’, Grant M. Mc Ilrath, to meet the meerkats and discover the magic of ‘Meerkat Magic Valley’ at sunset. Under Estelle Mc Ilrath's encouraging guidance, prepare preliminary sketches of the meerkats / suricates and their environment—fynbos unique to the Klein Karoo, the backdrop of mountains and possible springbuck or ostrich.
Session 3: * times vary over the year, please check before booking. 20h00 --21h00 Informal discussion on the afternoon’s activities followed by a workshop exploring the chosen art material and some of the techniques used for best exploiting them.
Day Two- Session 4: * times vary over the year, please check before booking. 05h00 -- ?
Tour with Grant M. Mc Ilrathand Estelle Mc Ilrath to experience sunrise with the meerkats and drawing in the field.
Session 5: * times vary over the year, please check before booking. 14h00 – 16h30
Workshop to complete artworks!
Prices quoted are fully inclusive of tuition and all art materials used, Meerkat Magic Sunrise and Sunset Tours, and transport on the reserve. Accommodation is not included.

Sunset Meerkat / Suricate Tour with Grant Mc Ilrath for any details you might have missed during the morning tour. Estelle Mc Ilrath will be present to help and guide you to complete a field drawing now that your confidence in your abilities has been boosted! * costs available on request.

Meerkat / suricate sculpture, small enough to fit into your hand luggage on an aeroplane! * costs available on request.
Although the unique Art on the Wild Side in The Meerkat Magic Valley is our flagship, art tours can be tailor-made to suit you:
Oudtshoorn area: Historic architecture including feather palaces; museums; crocodile ranch; mountain scenery and local flora.
Knysna and environs: Harbour; monkeys; birds of prey; elephants and scenery.
George: Steam Railway Museum; museums; and historic buildings.
Mossel Bay: Seals, fishing harbour; yacht basin; historic buildings; light house and rock hyrax (rock rabbit).
As these tailor made art tours are also suitable for children 6 years and older, they are an ideal holiday outing for the whole family!
NB: Children, 10 years and older capable of sitting quietly for extended periods of time may also be included in the Meerkat Magic Art Tours. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

We were amply rewarded after a patient wait in drizzle and cold wind, able to follow the meerkats along paths no human had been able to follow them before. There are few similarly memorable moments in ones life such as this and we thank Grant for your hard work and your willingness to share its fruits.
"Art on the Wildside" has taught me a whole new way of looking at wildlife. Capturing moving animals - be it meerkats, monkeys or other mammals - with a pen rather than a camera lens evoked a deep sense of satisfaction and achievement.
I shall never look upon a penquin again without remembering the sharp, hooked shape of its beak or the stylish pink colouring above its eyes.
'Art on the Wildside' has made me pay attention to detail even a camera would miss and an untrained eye would never know it existed.
